NELFT looking to appoint Associate Hospital Managers
05 September 2016

NELFT wishes to appoint some Associate Hospital Managers to add to its existing team. AHMs are lay membersof the community who are appointed to carry out functions under the MentalHealth Act, specifically to review the detention or other legal status of patients.AHMs receive reports in advance and meet as a panel of three to hear evidence from the patient, doctor, social workers and others. AHMs are an important legal safeguard and can discharge patients even when the doctorand other professionals feel they should continue to be subject to the Act.They are not and by law cannot be employees of the Trust as they have an independent status.

They are not paid as such but do receive expenses (currently £50.00 per hearing plus travel costs.) Hearings are in a varietyof Trust settings, particularly Goodmayes Hospital, Ilford.

We are particularly interested in applications from members of ethnic minorities to reflect the ethnically diverse community the Trust serves

Anyone interested should send aCV detailing their background and reasons for applying to Robert Keys, MentalHealth Law Manager, Suite 12, Phoenix House, Christopher Martin Rd, Basildon,SS14 3EZ by or by email, For further informationor discussion you can also phone him on x 5655 or email
