Old Man Stoer climb

At the end of July, a party of rock climbers - including a local carer - will be participating in a sponsored climb of The Old Man of Stoer, off Scotland's rugged and windy west coast, to raise funds for The Alzheimer's Society.

Publishing and New Media Workshop

thinkarts are running a workshop on Tuesday 6th May from 10.30am to 12 noon at the OT Department, Goodmayes Hospital. The training is for volunteers who are interested in developing their skills to work on the thinkarts newsletter production.

If you are interested in the arts, magazine publishing or new media this is an opportunity to gain skills and experiences.

Dementia End of Life Care Project

The End of Life Care Project has been set up to improve the quality of care for people with advanced dementia and their caregivers.

A local stakeholders conference will be held on Wednesday 28th May 10am - 3.30pm in Room 2, Community Mental Health Team for Older People, Goodmayes Hospital, Barley Lane

The aim of the conference is to share information and to discuss how to tackle different areas of the project.

Alzheimer Cafe - Redbridge, Tuesday

Capital Party - Tuesday 17th June

The Redbridge Progress Team

The Redbridge Progress Team has recently formed as a result of the merger of Redbridge Voluntary Services and Occupational Therapy Day Services, following the review of Voluntary Services in 2006.

The team focuses on assisting people with a severe and enduring mental health problem to engage in purposeful activity. We promote and encourage involvement in education, work and leisure activities with the aim of promoting recovery, wellbeing and social inclusion.

This is achieved in 3 different ways:
1. By providing goal orientated and time limited groups which facilitate "throughput" into mainstream community focused services.
2. By providing community and hospital based projects which meet the social and wellbeing needs of individuals who would otherwise be socially isolated.
3. By providing the opportunity for individuals (with or without mental health difficulties) to undertake volunteering or work experience placements.

The team will be based in the old Patient's Library, Goodmayes Hospital and can be contacted on , internal 4383.

New Care Programme Approach guidance

The Care Programme Approach (CPA), established in 1991, is the care assessment, planning and review system for people with severe mental illness using specialist (secondary) mental health services. The system is designed to coordinate activity to meet individual's needs for treatment, support and care across a range of services, (e.g. medication, therapy, housing, finances, education, personal aspirations).

The Department of Health have recently issued new guidance which updates policy and sets out positive practice guidance for trusts and commissioners to review local practice to refocus CPA within mental health services. You can read and download the publication here
