Anxiety Care Appeal

Anxiety Care announced recently that it could face closure because it is rapidly running out of funds. For more than a decade, its team of highly trained - and accredited - volunteers have used cognitive behavioural therapy to help people with anxiety disorders, phobias and obsessive compulsive disorders.

To help raise money, Anxiety Care are holding a quiz night on Thursday 3rd April, 7pm at the Cauliflower Public House, 556 High Road Ilford IG1 1TZ (Near Seven Kings Station). Tickets cost £5 per person.

A Taste of Local Honey

On Sunday 20th April - 11am to 4pm, Forest Farm Peace Garden are running an introduction day into the world of the honey bee. It is also an opportunity to find out what goes on inside the hives.

The Occupational Therapy Day Services Garden / Allotment Group

The Allotment Group which was set up in May 2006 operates a fully organic allotment from February to October to make the most of the growing season. The project has established an excellent rapport with the other allotment gardeners who offer valuable support, advice and a share of produce, seeds and plants.

We have also developed good working relationships with other Goodmayes Hospital based services, particularly the Rehabilitation Service and Emily Bronte Acute Day Hospital. We are hoping to improve and develop these by linking in with other services such as Older Peoples Services and Community Mental Health Teams.

We are also currently in talks with Forest Farm Peace Garden to enable us to develop a wider range of activities. This will enable us to offer horticultural opportunities to a variety of people on different levels of recovery both within the Goodmayes Site and the local community.

Too young to care - not old enough for help?

Widespread recognition of the needs and issues surrounding young mental health carers and their parents is still not here. Sometimes it is difficult to understand why this issue has not yet been solved. It is surely self-evident that children and young people should not have to take on adult responsibilities for care and that parents with mental health needs should be able to ask for, and receive parenting support?

Policy paper on refocusing mental health services on patient's recovery

Making Recovery a Reality from the Sainsbury's Centre for Mental Health [SCMH] suggests that helping people to recover their lives should be the top priority for mental health services. This means giving service users the chance to determine what future they want for themselves and offering practical support to help them to achieve it. The policy paper marks the beginning of the Sainsbury Centre recovery project, which will look in more detail at how recovery can be made a practical reality in mental health services and in the criminal justice system.
