Redbridge Concern for Mental Health unveiled as Sainsbury's Barkingside's new Local Charity

We are delighted to announce that we have been chosen as Sainsbury's Barkingside's new Local Charity partner for 2012/2013.

The announcement comes after the store asked Barkingside customers which local charity they would like to provide a year's support to.

The partnership was officially launched on Saturday, 1 September. And, customers can now choose to make a donation in-store.

Job Opportunity at Redbridge Concern, £25,862 (pro rata) per annum

Funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to work with our service user led project RUN-UP.

You will be responsible for setting up and developing a project to develop and promote 'the voice' of mental health service users to effectively engage in the design, delivery and monitoring of service provision. This will include the day-to-day running of the project, developing and promoting mentoring and peer support programmes, and working closely with existing staff, service users, volunteers and partners.

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) Reforms, Thursday 6 September

The Government is taking forward important reforms to the welfare system. One of these reforms will involve changes to Disability Living Allowance and will affect eligibility for a Blue Badge.

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is being reformed to create a new benefit called Personal Independence Payment (PIP). This will be introduced for people aged between 16 and 64 from April 2013 onwards.

We are therefore inviting you to join us for a consultation to give your views on the reforms. Come and have your say!

Mental health spending falls for first time in 10 years

Spending in real terms on mental health has declined for the first time in a decade, a report for the Department of Health has found.

Although one of the coalition's first big policy announcements was to declare that mental health ought to have "parity with physical health in the NHS", investment in mental health for working-age adults dropped by 1%, once inflation is taken into account, to £6.63bn. For the elderly the recorded fall in real terms spending was 3.1% to £2.83bn.

The Department of Health has published two reports on the investment on mental health services:

• the eleventh annual working age adult (WAA) report
• the older adult mental health (OPMH) report

  National framework to improve mental health and wellbeing published

  The government has published the Mental health implementation framework, which sets out what organisations can do to make the 6 high-level objectives of the mental health strategy No Health without Mental Health a reality.

  The Mental health implementation framework sets out what employers, schools, businesses, local authorities, housing organisations, voluntary groups and health and care organisations can do to promote good mental health, whether it's clinical commissioning groups appointing mental health leads, schools developing awareness programmes to help staff recognise pupils at risk, or employers supporting the mental health of their workforce

  Transforming child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) in Redbridge - Have your say

  London Borough of Redbridge and North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) have developed proposals to transform child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) for young people living in Redbridge.

  A public consultation on the proposals will run from 20 July to 12 October 2012.
