Run-Up has spent over a year investigating mental health service users' concerns over Redbridge Council's Freedom Pass Local Enhancement Scheme and how the withdrawal of passes can exacerbate mental health problems.

Care Quality Commission

The Care Quality Commission recently checked up on how well North East London NHS Foundation Trust is meeting essential standards of quality and safety at Goodmayes Hospital during May 2011.

Overall the Commission found that Goodmayes Hospital was not meeting one or more essential standards. Improvements were needed.

Celebrating UK Older People's week in Redbridge

Local residents and community groups are helping people stay active as they get older with a week-long programme of activities to mark UK Older People's Day.

UK Older People's Day is officially on 1 October and Redbridge is celebrating with a special Older People's Week in the run up to the national day commencing on Wednesday 21 September through to Friday 30 September.

The week is kicked off by a fashion show with an international flavour and Bollywood dancing on Monday 26 September. This event takes place at the Redbridge Salvation Army Hall from 11am to 1.30pm.

Valentines Mansion hosts a special Health and Wellbeing fair on Wednesday 28 September, with information stalls, a chance to take a guided tour around the Mansion and gardens and free health checks.

Other events include an exhibition of wartime memorabilia at the Allan Burgess Centre; an information day at Fullwell Cross Library; keep fit sessions including Yoga, Zumba and Salsa as well as arts and crafts classes.

The programme has been organised by Redbridge Council, Age UK Redbridge, Vision RCL and Redbridge Institute of Adult Education, working alongside older people and other local organisations.

The events are open to everyone of all ages with the majority being FREE!

Volunteering at Forest Farm Peace Garden?

Forest Farm Peace Garden aim to work with a broad cross-section of the local community to promote mental and physical health, social inclusion, intercultural awareness, and environmental sustainability. There are many ongoing projects in the Garden- growing organic vegetables, caring for fruit and berry trees, working with our beehives, tending the herb garden and organising workshops and events that welcome and share skills with the community.

Forest Farm Peace Garden Film Night, Friday 2nd September

Join us at Forest Farm Peace Garden for a Wind Powered Family Film Night. Bring along your friends and family for our first ever film night, made possible by the power of the wind. We will be showing Wallace Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit - a story of adventure, courage and vegetables!

Hot drinks and snacks available. We will be showing the film in the polytunnel, which is protected from rain and warmer than it is outdoors, so even if it's a chilly evening, you should be fine with a jacket or blanket. All ages welcome
