Too many people in crisis turned away

The Care Quality Commission has called for urgent action to continue to improve access to and the operation of health-based places of safety for people experiencing a mental health crisis.

CQC has found that too many health-based places of safety are turning people away because they are already full, and some are refusing to help people who are intoxicated or exhibiting disturbed behaviour.

The regulator has issued a series of recommendations aimed at providers and commissioners today alongside the findings from a survey of all NHS mental health trusts in England and two social enterprises providing health-based places of safety.

Run Up Peer Support Group - First Thursday of every month

Run Up facilitates a Peer Support Group on the first Thursday of every month from 11am to 1pm at 98-100 Ilford Lane, Ilford, IG1 2LD (just turn up, no booking required).

The Peer Support Group is based around hope, support, encouragement and sharing experiences amongst people with lived experience of mental health issues.

Towards dementia-friendly faith communities, Monday, 17 November, 2014 - 18:30

Everything you wanted to know about Dementia but were afraid to ask

Registration will be at 6:30pm, the presentations between 7:00pm and 8:00pm will cover what dementia is, becoming a dementia friend, becoming a dementia champion and dementia friends.

Celebration Launch/ AGM Event of Carers Trust EHHR (created by the merger of Crossroads Care Havering and Crossroads Care Redbridge, Epping and Harlow in April of this year)

The guest speaker will be Dr Moira Fraser, who is the Head of Policy and Research at Carers Trust, the national organisation of which we are a network partner.  Moira is both a dynamic speaker and hugely knowledgeable on all carer issues. 

Carers Trust has chosen The City Pavilion as our venue as they are expecting a large number of people to attend this special event.  Key members of the communities in which they operate are being invited to come and hear from the people leading the charity about its future plans and opportunities, as well as the challenges facing the sector.  They will talk about our journey so far as successful charitable organisations which have served carers for over twenty years.

Help available through the Redbridge Emergency Support Scheme

The scheme will provide financial help in two ways, but ONLY where there is no alternative help available:

Firstly, where urgent short term help is needed in exceptional circumstances, for example after an emergency or disaster, or to prevent serious risk to a person's or their immediate family's health or safety.

Secondly, where a person needs help to establish themselves in Redbridge after being in institutional care, as part of a planned resettlement programme, for example after leaving prison or residential care.

Please note: No cash payments will be made unless exceptional circumstances apply.
