Hidden in plain sight - the launch of the Disability Harassment Inquiry report

'Hidden in plain sight' - the final report of our ground breaking inquiry into disability-related harassment. The report uncovers not only that harassment is a commonplace experience for disabled people, but also that a culture of disbelief and systemic institutional failures are preventing it from being tackled effectively.

As well as reporting on the extent of harassment, the report also includes a review of ten cases to look at what, if any, lessons have been learnt in each case, and makes recommendations to public authorities to help them deal with the problems uncovered.

Five tips to reduce the costs of low productivity

The Centre for Mental Health in a recent report has calculated that presenteeism (or reduced productivity) from mental ill health alone costs the UK economy £15.1 billion per annum, more than double that of absenteeism.

Research shows that presenteeism is hugely costly to employers, but all too often ignored. Managing it well not only saves money in both the short and longer term, but also contributes to the development of an engaged and productive workforce.

Island to Island: Dominica, Barbados and Britain, 1 November to 31 December 2011

This Redbridge Museum exhibition displays stunning images by respected photographer Tim Smith. The exhibition uses photographs and people's stories of migration to explore the close relationship between Britain and the Caribbean islands of Dominica and Barbados.

Caring for our future White Paper consultation launched

The Government has now identified six areas where they feel there is the biggest potential to make improvements to the care and support system. Between now and December, they will be having discussions on these areas with a range of people and organisations involved with care and support. They want to discuss what people's priorities are, and this will feed directly into a White Paper that will be published in April 2012, alongside a progress report on funding reform.

The priorities proposed are:

1.Improving quality and developing the workforce
2.Increased personalisation and choice
3.Ensuring services are better integrated around people's needs
4.Supporting greater prevention and early intervention
5.Creating a more diverse and responsive care market
6.The role of the financial services sector in supporting users, carers and their families

Age of opportunity: older people, volunteering and the Big Society

This report, in partnership with older people's charity Independent Age, urges the Coalition to rethink the policies designed to support the Big Society, ensuring that they support and encourage older people who already contribute an estimated £14 billion worth of volunteering and childcare to the UK economy every year. It sets out a raft of policies aimed at breaking down barriers that hamper greater community participation from older people.
