Sessional Interviewers Required

We need interviewers to carry out a survey on inpatient wards across the North East London NHS Foundation Trust.

The aim of the project is to obtain direct feedback from service users and their carers concerning the quality of care received during their hospital stay.

Redbridge Workers Network Forum (Carers), Wednesday 20 May 2009

NICE clinical guideline - Schizophrenia

The updated NICE guideline states that people with schizophrenia should be offered Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (more than 16 sessions) and/or family therapy (more than 10 sessions) and possibly art therapy, and that these can be started during an acute phase if appropriate.

The guideline also emphasise that healthcare professionals should offer carers their 'carers assessment' and provide carers with information about schizophrenia, including how they can help and where they can get support. Also, health professionals should be able to negotiate confidentiality and information sharing between the service user and the carer.

Key priorities for implementation state that health professionals must be competent in understanding different cultural approaches to mental illness and expectations around treatment.

Equality in later life (national study of older people's mental health services)

This is a report of a national study of mental health services for older people in England. The study combined an analysis of national data with visits to a representative sample of mental health trusts.

It covered four themes: age discrimination in mental health services; quality of inpatient care; how comprehensive services are; and how organisations work together to provide services.

There are 14 recommendations for the Government, the Care Quality Commission, NHS trusts and service providers, to ensure that there is a coordinated approach to improve mental health services for older people.
