Our Response to Redbridge Council's Consultation

Mental illness is the single largest source of burden of disease in Redbridge. No other health condition matches mental illness in the combined extent of prevalence, persistence and breadth of impact.

Mental Health, according to the Coalition Government, is Everyone's Business and as such should be at the forefront of Redbridge Council's Draft Early Intervention and Prevention Strategy.

In Crisis and Don't Know what to do? - NELFT Mental Health Direct

NELFT Mental Health Direct is a telephone helpline service available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

If you live in Waltham Forest, Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham, or Havering, you can call for mental health help and advice anytime of the day or night.

We can arrange for you to speak with a mental health professional. We can also advise you about what service to contact to get the support you need.

Calls from a BT landline are the cost of a local call. Calls from other landlines and mobile providers will vary and may cost more.

NEW: Information for people with learning disability and their carers

The Royal College of Psychiatrists' Faculty of the Psychiatry of Learning Disability and the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust have produced a new series of very accessible information for people with mental health problems and learning disabilities. All these materials have been written and tested with people with learning disabilities and their carers.

Alzheimer Cafe

For everyone interested or affected by Alzheimers or other forms of Dementia. There will be a talk by speaker Marlene Daniels (RNID), on hearing related problems and music from The Redbridge Music Lounge.

The event is on Tuesday 12th July from 11am to 1.30pm at IRDSA Hall, Craven Gardens, Barkingside, IG6 1PS (Next to car park)

Attitudes to Mental Illness - 2011 survey report

This month the NHS published findings from a survey of attitudes towards mental illness among adults in England. Although the report suggests that some attitudes towards mental health have improved, there is still evidence that prejudice continues to be prevalent.

Alarmingly, one in six people believe that one of the main causes of mental illness is lack of self-discipline and will-power. Our work aimed at educating the public and raising the awareness of mental health is as vital as ever.

Family fun at Inspiration 2011 Festival

Celebrate one year to go until the London Olympics and Paralympics with a spectacular free festival on Sunday 24 July.

The Inspiration 2011 Festival at Fairlop Outdoor Activity Centre, Forest Road, Hainault, runs from 12noon to 7pm and will have an Olympic inspired opening and closing ceremony with music, entertainers, extreme sports demos, food stalls and much more for the whole family. Highlights include the Redbridge 10k run - Join Olympian Tessa Sanderson in the first ever 10K run at Fairlop.

Redbridge Compact 2011-2014 - Consultation

Redbridge Compact is a joint agreement between voluntary groups and public bodies and exists to help the partners improve their relationship for mutual advantage and community gain.

The compact is now being upgraded to set the framework for how: voluntary groups, public bodies (including the Council, NHS, Police and Fire Services) will work together over the next 3 years. To find out more and to respond to the consultation visit here
