Saturday Drop in For people living with dementia and their families

A new monthly drop in for people living with dementia and family carers opens on Saturday 7th November at the Dementia Resource Centre, from 10.30am to 1.30pm.

There will be plenty of information about dementia services as well as refreshments and complementary therapy tasters.

Redbridge Concern for Mental Health is currently seeking sessional interviewers to join the Service User Feedback Project which aims to obtain direct feedback from mental health service users and their relatives, carers and friends concerning the quality of care they are receiving during their hospital stay on North East London Foundation Trust inpatient wards.

2009 survey of mental health acute inpatient services

The 2009 Care Quality Commission asked people all about their experiences of acute inpatient mental health services along the pathway from admission to leaving hospital, including the care and treatment they received, day-to-day activities, and relationships with staff.

The survey nationally showed limited access to talking therapies. Less than half of respondents said that they 'always' felt safe in hospital. There was a lack of activities available for inpatients, with 35% saying that there was too little to do on weekdays and over half (54%) reporting that there were not enough activities available to them at weekends or evenings.

Alzheimer Cafe

For everyone interested or affected by Alzheimer's or other forms of Dementia - the Alzheimer Cafe, Redbridge has invited the SHIELD Research Team to talk on Cognitive Stimulation Therapy.

Securing Employment for Offenders with Mental Health Problems

According to the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health, enabling a person with a history of offending to get and keep a job is probably the most effective intervention anyone can make to prevent reoffending and improve their chances of leading a better life.

Help us shape your local healthcare

Do you think more can be done to improve healthcare in Redbridge, such as bringing some hospital services closer to home?

NHS Redbridge is developing a new system to improve delivery of local healthcare services, called polysystems. Each polysystem will plan its health services based on the health needs of the population they serve.

There will be five polysystems across the borough, located in Cranbook, Fairlop, Seven Kings, Wanstead and Loxford. As part of the polysystem development, we would like to establish community panels of local residents, to help ensure we include the views and listen to the concerns of the people most likely to use the services.

We are planning to hold public events at the end of November, to provide more information about how community panels work. You will have the opportunity to meet NHS staff and residents from the Loxford Community Panel.
