Mental health patients forced to travel miles for care

A lack of beds is forcing mental health patients in England to seek treatment in other NHS facilities up to hundreds of miles away, BBC research has found.

Earlier this year one patient was admitted to a deaf unit as no beds were available anywhere in the country.

Have Your Say - s135 and s136 of the Mental Health Act 1983

The Government is reviewing the operation of s135 and s136 of the Mental Health Act 1983 which give the police powers to temporarily remove people who appear to be suffering from a mental health condition and who need urgent care to a 'place of safety'.

Notice of election for the Council of Governors of North East London NHS Foundation Trust

Are you interested in having a say in how healthcare services are provided in north east London and south west Essex?

Job Opportunities - Redbridge Forum

Adult Care Worker, £12.50 per hour,  Sessional Work. 

Redbridge Forum is looking for a Care Worker to offer personal care support to our adult service users with a learning disability or who are on the autistic spectrum and may have personal care needs.  Should be willing to use alternative communication aids and have experience of working with people that have behaviours that challenge.  Care will be needed so that our service users are able to attend consultation and strategic meetings thus giving them the opportunity to have their say and get their views across. 

Adult Support Worker. £12.50 per hour, Sessional Work.

Redbridge Forum is looking for a worker to support adults with a learning disability or who are on the autistic spectrum to attend consultation and strategic meetings.  The worker may also organise meetings, carry out admin support and transport arrangements.  Worker should be willing to use alternative communication aids and help the people to speak up and get their message across.

Help available through the Redbridge Emergency Support Scheme

The scheme will provide financial help in two ways, but ONLY where there is no alternative help available:

Firstly, where urgent short term help is needed in exceptional circumstances, for example after an emergency or disaster, or to prevent serious risk to a person's or their immediate family's health or safety.

Secondly, where a person needs help to establish themselves in Redbridge after being in institutional care, as part of a planned resettlement programme, for example after leaving prison or residential care.

Please note: No cash payments will be made unless exceptional circumstances apply.
