Air Football Film

Please take a few minutes to watch a short film about Air Football - a project which supports mental health and substance misuse service users on their recovery journeys.

The film has been produced by FilmForHumanity, which is a collective of professional and aspiring film-makers, actors and teachers who share a common vision - essentially to bring people together and share stories.

Out and About in Redbridge - What's Going on?

There are a whole range of events going on around Redbridge over the next month or so including the thinkarts creative writing group; five-a-side training and football with airfootball; open sessions at the Redbridge Music Lounge as well as the weekly dementia information and advice drop in at King Georges Hospital.

Support for Those Caring for a Relative with Memory Problems

The National Dementia Strategy (2009) has recently emphasised the importance of providing more peer support and improved help for carers. The Support at Home: Interventions to Enhance Life in Dementia (SHIELD) programme led by Professor Martin Orrell and Dr. Juanita Hoe aims to do just this. The project is being carried out by staff within the North East London NHS Foundation Trust and is currently working within the Redbridge community.

The SHIELD Carer Supporter Programme aims to improve the well-being of Family Carers and their relatives with dementia through the use of different forms of peer support. These include; Carer Support - putting Family Carers in contact with trained Experienced Carers for guidance and support; and Group Reminiscence Therapy for both the Person with Dementia and their Carer.

Alzheimer Cafe

For everyone interested or affected by Alzheimer's or other forms of Dementia - the Alzheimer Cafe, Redbridge has invited Lynda Ree (OT) to talk about Telecare - Assistive Technology For People With Dementia.

The event is on Tuesday May 11th 2010 from 11am to 1pm at the IRDSA Hall, Craven Gardens, Barkingside, IG6 1PS (Next to the car park)

2010 Sports Day at the North East London NHS Foundation Trust

Fit for 2012 Sports Day which is being held on 7 July 2010, 11am - 4pm will be a day of sporting & fitness activities and celebrating the arts in the grounds of Goodmayes Hospital.

Six Times Olympian and Gold Medallist Tessa Sanderson will be attending.

Equality Bill makes it to the statute books

The Equality Bill recently completed the final stage of its passage through Parliament and will now become law which means from autumn employers will no longer be able to ask job applicants about their mental health history prior to interview.

According to Mindss Chief Executive, Paul Farmer, "This is a real victory for everyone affected by mental health problems. For too long, employers have been able to covertly 'weed out' job applicants with a history of mental distress� regardless of whether or not the applicant is able to do the job. These new laws will go a long way to ensure that candidates with mental health problems are judged on their ability, not their mental health history.

Online Patient Feedback: Tell your story about your experiences of mental health care

Patient Opinion wants to hear your stories and your ideas to help other patients, and to improve the NHS. Patients and carers can find out what other people think of local hospitals, hospices and mental health services. The site has been set up so lots of people share the story of what happened to them or their family when they were ill. Most important of all patients and carers can tell it like it is.
