Alzheimer Cafe - Tuesday 10th January 2012, 11am to 1pm

For everyone interested or affected by Alzheimer's or other forms of Dementia - the Alzheimer Cafe, Redbridge has invited Rita Thakaria & Carla Bryson (Specialist Speech & Language Therapists) to talk about swallowing problems in dementia & coping strategies.

The Redbridge Compact 2011-14 is Launched

The new Redbridge Compact sets out how public bodies, such as the Police, NHS, Fire Brigade and the Council, will work more closely with voluntary organisations to make sure residents continue to benefit from their vital help and support. Amongst other things, the document sets out guidelines for community involvement, volunteering, commitment to longer term funding, how to work well together and guidelines for solving any disputes.

Tell Us Once

A new service that makes it easier for grieving residents to tell organisations about a death has been launched in Redbridge. 'Tell Us Once' is a voluntary service which allows people to tell Redbridge Council about a death and then the Council tells the other Government and local services that need to know about it. Residents will be asked if they wish to use the service when they visit the Registrar to register a death.

Views Requested on the New Primary Care Strategy

NHS Outer North East London is currently consulting on their Primary Care Strategy for 2012/17.  They are looking at ways to organise local services so that residents can get more services closer to home or in their own home. The consultation runs until February 2012 and they would welcome your views.

Remploy launches flagship mental health support services for Access to Work

Remploy recently launched the UK's first ever Government funded mental health in work support service.

This new service will assist more than 1,600 people with mental health conditions to stay in employment.

Currently, one in six people in the UK suffer from a mental health condition at any one time. This equates to 70 million working days lost every year due to mental ill health [Source: Mind].

Remploy's in work support starting today is completely impartial and confidential, comes at no cost to either employer or employee, can be delivered with or without the support of the employer and is delivered by experts who truly understand mental health.

The service will provide a wide range of support for people with mental health conditions for a period of six months and will include identifying reasonable adjustments within the workplace or within the confines of working practice.

NELFT Mental Health Direct is a telephone helpline service available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

If you live in Waltham Forest, Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham, or Havering you can call for mental health help and advice anytime of the day or night.

NELFT Mental Health Direct can arrange for you to speak with a mental health professional and can also advise you about what service to contact to get the support you need.
