Disability Living Allowance reform - public consultation

This consultation seeks your views on the Government's proposals to replace Disability Living Allowance (DLA) with a new benefit - Personal Independence Payment. The Personal Independence Payment will continue to be a non-means tested, extra costs benefit. This consultation asks for views to inform policy for reforming DLA and introducing a new assessment process.

Alzheimer Cafe - Tuesday 11th January 2011

Rape Crisis Centre for Redbridge Launches

People who have experienced rape and sexual abuse can now benefit from a dedicated professional support service in East London.

Rape Crisis East London was launched by Kit Malthouse, Deputy Mayor of London for Policing, on Thursday November 18. The service caters for both men and women from seven East London boroughs, offering long-term support and counselling for those aged 14 and over who have been raped or sexually abused.

You can contact the service by phoning the London Rape Crisis helpline on .  The phone line is open every day of the year from midday to 2.30pm and 7pm to 9.30pm.

Rape Crisis services are not places for people to report crimes or places of forensic investigation.  They are designed for those who have been a victim of rape or sexual abuse, either recently or in the past, to get the support they need to help them deal with their traumatic experience.

Those who use the service do not need to have reported their experiences to the police and research shows that many victims contact such services years, or even decades after they have been raped or sexually abused.

Hate Crime Strategy Consultation

The Redbridge Safer Communities Partnership has been working on a new for several months. Relevant public and voluntary sector organisations and members of the public have been consulted throughout the process, beginning with a needs assessment day and continuing throughout the development of the strategy. In addition a wide range of research from academics, public bodies and campaigning bodies have been considered and incorporated.

The strategy is near completion and the Partnership will soon start implementing it. However, before it is implemented, it wants to ensure that everyone who has an interest in the strategy has had a chance to influence its contents. Please feel free to look through the strategy and action plan and if you think there is anything which is wrong, or there is something missing, please send your comments to the address below.

The consultation deadline is Wednesday 12 January 2011.
