Mental health emergency treatment inaccessible and ineffective, say patients

People with urgent mental health issues struggle to access the emergency treatment they need, according to a new independent inquiry Listening to experience released by charity Mind.

Hundreds of patients and professionals told Mind's inquiry panel of crisis experts that while excellent crisis care does exist, there are problems with inpatient hospitals and community crisis teams including people struggling to get help, staffing problems, poor quality care environments and not enough treatment provided to help people recover.

Views Requested on the New Primary Care Strategy

NHS Outer North East London is currently consulting on their Primary Care Strategy for 2012/17.  They are looking at ways to organise local services so that residents can get more services closer to home or in their own home. The consultation runs until February 2012 and they would welcome your views.

£33,600 Awarded to Punjabi Centre by Lloyds TSB

The Punjabi Centre has been awarded £33,600 by Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales for 2 years to support the New Commonwealth Women's Health Project.

The project's aim is to raise awareness of mental health issues and promote and improve physical health, well being and social inclusion amongst women in the South Asian community.

The group runs 4 days a week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday

Referrals are accepted from GPs, Mental Health Teams, Carers, and Social Workers.

Tell Us Once

A new service that makes it easier for grieving residents to tell organisations about a death has been launched in Redbridge.

'Tell Us Once' is a voluntary service which allows people to tell Redbridge Council about a death and then the Council tells the other Government and local services that need to know about it. Residents will be asked if they wish to use the service when they visit the Registrar to register a death.

The Wellcome Trust Conferenc Centre (183 Eustone Road, London) is hosting the launch of Mind in Camden's new three-year project to develop a London-wide network of peer support groups for people struggling with paranoia and overwhelming beliefs.

Combining talks and workshops from renowned speakers such as Peter Bullimore, Rufus May and Dolly Sen, it will include stories of recovery, innovative approaches to working with paranoia and plenty of ideas to take home on how to cope with, and recover from, distressing experiences.
