NELFT Update

NELFT's governance rating recently went from green to red/amber following a visit by the Care Quality Commission to Sunflowers Court in May when they found that the Trust needed to make some improvements.

The Trust took immediate action to address all of the concerns raised and, after reviewing these, the CQC wrote to Monitor to say that they have no serious outstanding concerns.

This has led to Monitor re-instating NELFT's green governance rating in October.

North East London NHS Foundation Trust Chief Executive John Brouder said: "This is good news, and we hope this will help to reassure our service users and patients that the services they are receiving are amongst the best available."

Have your say on the future of primary care services

The NHS has launched a 12-week consultation to ask residents for their views on proposed changes to how it delivers primary care services in Redbridge. Primary care includes GP practices, dentists, high street opticians, pharmacies, urgent care centres and much more.

Separate changes in the NHS were announced last month after the Health Secretary agreed proposals to close Accident and Emergency and maternity services at King George Hospital. Residents will need to travel to Queen's or Whipps Cross Hospitals for these services. No changes will take place until Queen's Hospital and other local health services are improved and of a high standard.

Could you help shape Government policy on mental health? - The Ministerial Advisory Group on the Mental Health Strategy

The Ministerial Advisory Group on the Mental Health Strategy has recently been established to lead the delivery of No health without mental health. The group, which meets four times a year, is chaired by Paul Burstow, the Minister for Care Services. It has a large membership that includes representatives from Government departments, third sector organisations and other community organisations.

For these posts you will be responsible for ensuring that the voices of people with experience of using mental health services and the family and friends who support them are heard in the Ministerial Advisory Group's discussions. You will need to be a person who has used mental health services in England either currently or in the past, or a relative or friend who supports somebody who has used, or uses these services.

Remuneration is £150 per day. Travel and related expenses are reimbursed at rates set by the Department of Health.

AdEPT: Understanding and Preventing the Adverse Effects of Psychological Therapies

If you have experienced therapy as a therapist or client, that you feel has 'gone wrong' or been harmful, we are keen to hear from you. It doesn't matter whether you have used NHS services or not.

There are different ways to take part in our study, filling in a questionnaire, being interviewed, and/or taking part in a focus group - everyone has to initially complete a questionnaire.

Mental health crisis card - telephone number error

Unfortunately there was a printing error on the recently issued North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) mental health crisis cards.

There is a '1' missing from the end of the mental health direct telephone number on the back of the card (the correct number is on the front of the card).

The incorrect cards have been recalled where possible, and replaced with correctly printed cards. However, it has come to our attention that a number of the incorrect cards are in circulation.

We are asking everybody with a NELFT MHS crisis card to take a look at the back of their card and check the Mental Health Direct telephone number, which should read .

If you have an incorrect card and would like a replacement card, please contact Nikki Tysoe on ext 4229 or email: and we will be happy to send you a new card.

We are very sorry for any confusion this error may have caused.

NELFT Mental Health Direct is a telephone helpline service available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
