Roots to Routes

Roots to Routes is the title of the community led research project focusing on the experiences of people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups in adult acute mental health settings in Redbridge.

Sports Day

Come along to the Nelmht Sports Day on Thursday September 20th from 11am to 3pm in the grounds of Goodmayes Hospital to celebrate physical activity and the arts.

There will be a range of sporting activities including: tai chi; aerobics; cricket; football; netball and rounders.

Everyone is welcome to spectate or participate - bring a picnic and sit and watch the cricket match which begins at 1pm.

Attitudes To Mental Illness Report, 2007

This is the most recent survey of people's attitudes to mental illness. The previous survey was conducted in 2003. Nearly 9 out of 10 think those with mental health problems deserve our sympathy and more than 4 out of 5 think society needs to be more tolerant towards mentally-ill people.

Job Opportunity - Support Officers - Floating Support (Redbridge)

Family Mosaic is looking to recruit to their floating support service for vulnerable people. The posts are based in Ilford. £25,000 pa plus annual performance bonus. There are full time (35 hours per week) and part time posts available (hours to be agreed with post holder)

Hearing Voices Group

Do you hear voices? Would you like to meet other people in a similar situation to yourself? To talk about your experiences, of hearing voices, to learn about that of others and also strategies for coping?

A new Hearing Voices Group is starting up at the Redbridge Resource Centre, Ley Street on the 7th August 2007. The group will run every Tuesday from 2pm - 3.30pm. Free refreshments available to members.

Nelmht Foundation Trust Consultation

Nelmht is on the road to becoming a Foundation Trust. Consultation on the application will run from 9 July to 19 October 2007. During this time Nelmht will seek views and comments on their constitution and membership strategy, and will be actively engaging with the public, staff and local partners in order to recruit a vibrant and diverse membership.

Nelmht, therefore, have scheduled some public meetings throughout August to enable you to come along and find out what becoming a member means. Click here to find out where and when the meetings are being held.

Forest Farm Peace Garden

Sunday 19th August 10am to 5pm Blackberry Jam Making Day.

There is only so many black berries one can eat in the summer! Lets preserve some of the summer fruit for winter by making jam. Join us for a day of fruit picking at the garden and than making jam in the kitchen of our friendly project in Walthamstow! Transport will be arranged.

Symposium For the London spirituality and Mental Health Collaborative

On Monday 26th November, 2007 Camden and Islington Care Trust will be hosting a symposium (a get together of interested parties - not a conference!) for all London trusts who are members of, or interested in joining, the NIMHE/CSIP Spirituality Collaborative.

Aims of the day include: to share developing practice across the region; to set up a supportive and learning network on spirituality across London and to update people on the NIMHE project. More information about the Spirituality Collaborative and existing London pilot can be found here

No voice, no choice: a joint review of adult mental health services in England

The Healthcare Commission and the Commission for Social Care Inspection have published their national review of adult specialist community mental health services. The findings show that, since the introduction of the National Service Framework for mental health, there has been a steady improvement in the range and quality of such services for those who need them and Local Implementation Teams appear to be an effective vehicle for commissioning and delivering new models of community mental health. However, the pace of change and improvement has been variable, leaving some people with little or no access to care and treatment.
