Social care services 'unsustainable'

Adult social care services in England will soon be 'unsustainable' if current budgetary pressures continue, and significant measures are not taken to inject new money into local social care economies. This is the clear message from the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services' annual budget survey.

Richard Humphries, assistant director of policy at the King's Fund: "This survey once again highlights the enormous pressure on social care budgets. Despite the best efforts of local authorities, this will result in further cuts to services and fewer people receiving support."

Consultation on Redbridge Grants 2014

As the Corporate Grants Programme is now in the final year of a 3 year cycle the Council wishes to undertake a review of its processes to evaluate how it can be improved to strengthen its funding programmes, respond to changing social emerging needs and support the growth and development of the voluntary and community sector.

The consultation period will be for 12 weeks and it will close on the 1st October 2014. The outcomes of the review will be reported to the November Cabinet and published on the Councils website.

We are seeking the views of those who have either applied (whether successful or unsuccessful); or, who have considered applying for funding. You can also give your views if you have never applied or considered applying by looking at the information and letting us know what you think.

Redbridge Transport Action Group - Wednesday 6th August, 1pm - 3pm

Redbridge Transport Action Group is the group of older and disabled transport users campaigning for more accessible transport.

This month, we will focus on Sick of Waiting, the campaign for minimum standards in patient transport contracts. Come and discuss your experience of patient transport, and hear what you can do to support better patient transport in Redbridge.

We will also have the latest updates on the ongoing campaign for a stepfree Crossrail, at Seven Kings and across the line.

Refreshments will be provided.

Redbridge Advice Network Seminar Membership promotion

Redbridge Advice Network held their first Advice Partnership seminar on 17 July, with over 20 agencies in and around Redbridge attending. The Seminar was chaired by Redbridge CVS' Ross Diamond, with the Mayor of Redbridge and a representative from Big Lottery Fund giving speeches about the value of advice and the project.

The event was successful in getting more members on board to support our aims and outcomes.

More than 1 in 10 women develop a mental illness during pregnancy or within the first year after having a baby. If untreated, these perinatal mental illnesses can have a devastating impact on the women affected and their families. In the UK, mental illness in pregnant and postnatal women often goes unrecognised, undiagnosed and untreated.

Help available through the Redbridge Emergency Support Scheme

The scheme will provide financial help in two ways, but ONLY where there is no alternative help available:

Firstly, where urgent short term help is needed in exceptional circumstances, for example after an emergency or disaster, or to prevent serious risk to a person's or their immediate family's health or safety.

Secondly, where a person needs help to establish themselves in Redbridge after being in institutional care, as part of a planned resettlement programme, for example after leaving prison or residential care.

Please note: No cash payments will be made unless exceptional circumstances apply.
