Mental health patient admissions to A&E set to reach record levels

The number of people with a mental health condition admitted to hospital as an emergency is likely to reach its highest level ever this winter, a former health minister has warned.

Charities have warned that people with mental health conditions are using A&E to get treatment because they are 'being let down by the rest of the system'. While mental illness accounts for 23% of the total impact of ill health in this country, it gets only 13% of the NHS budget.

Run Up Peer Support Group - First Thursday of every month

Run Up facilitates a Peer Support Group on the first Thursday of every month from 11am to 1pm at 98-100 Ilford Lane, Ilford, IG1 2LD (just turn up, no booking required).

The Peer Support Group is based around hope, support, encouragement and sharing experiences amongst people with lived experience of mental health issues.

Local Forums - Local Voices Matter
Wednesday 21 January, 6pm to 9pm

Local Forums combine formal and informal opportunities for residents to raise questions, ideas, issues and concerns with Council services and local organisations. There are two parts to each Local Forum: a Market Place and a Question Time.

Market Place
The first part of the Local Forum is the Market Place. You can browse stalls staffed by Council officers and Councillors to discuss issues that affect you, including planning, litter, parking, benefits and housing. Partners including the Police, Neighbourhood Watch, Liberty Credit Union, HealthWatch and local voluntary sector groups will also be at the Market Place.

Question Time
The Market Place will be followed by a more formal Question Time, where you can put questions to Councillors and senior Council officers.

Questions can be submitted in advance using the form at www.redbridge.gov.uk/localforums or asked on the night.

Help available through the Redbridge Emergency Support Scheme

The scheme will provide financial help in two ways, but ONLY where there is no alternative help available:

Firstly, where urgent short term help is needed in exceptional circumstances, for example after an emergency or disaster, or to prevent serious risk to a person's or their immediate family's health or safety.

Secondly, where a person needs help to establish themselves in Redbridge after being in institutional care, as part of a planned resettlement programme, for example after leaving prison or residential care.

Please note: No cash payments will be made unless exceptional circumstances apply.
